Marco Mencacci ‘Tatlim’ Chair for Sawaya & Moroni, 1990s — Sculptural Italian
By Marco Mencacci, Sawaya & Moroni
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Highly collectible and visually striking, this Marco Mencacci ‘Tatlim’ chair, designed in the 1990s for Sawaya & Moroni, Milan, embodies the bold experimentation of Italian postmodern design. The chair features a minimalist square seat in black lacquered wood, anchored by tapered legs and punctuated by a dramatic, round, lace-edged backrest—a playful gesture that references both historical ornament and contemporary abstraction. A standout statement piece, the ‘Tatlim’ chair merges sculptural form, artistic irreverence, and Italian design pedigree in one unforgettable silhouette.
This rare example sits at the intersection of design art and functional object, aligning with the expressive ethos of Memphis Milano while remaining distinct in Mencacci’s own experimental language. It is ideal for collectors of postmodern furniture, gallery interiors, or as a sculptural accent in curated contemporary spaces.
• Designer: Marco Mencacci
• Manufacturer: Sawaya & Moroni, Milan
• Origin: Italy
• Date: 1990s

'Moraine' Biomorphic Sofa by Zaha Hadid for Sawaya & Moroni Italy, 2000, Signed
By Sawaya & Moroni, Zaha Hadid, Zaha Hadid Architects
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This incredible and rare biomorphic sofa is by Zaha Hadid for Milano Italy based maker Sawaya & Moroni. Made of polyurethane foam with an asymmetrical freeform shape and covered in Red 'Fantasy Leather', a special hide produced by Sawaya & Moroni to create a 'pony skin' like effect. The edge of base with leather label “Sawaya & Moroni / MILANO - ITALY”
