T.M. Nicholas Art

American, b. 1963
T.M. Nicholas (b. 1963) is a distinguished American landscape painter celebrated for his luminous depictions of New England towns, coastal harbors, and pastoral countryside vistas. The son of acclaimed artist Tom Nicholas, N.A., he has carried forward a proud artistic legacy while developing a style uniquely his own—marked by vibrant color, confident brushwork, and an extraordinary ability to capture the transient light and atmosphere of each season. A lifelong resident of Cape Ann, Massachusetts, Nicholas paints extensively throughout Vermont, Maine, and the New England coastline, translating the charm and character of small-town America into timeless works of art. Deeply influenced by the American Impressionist School, his paintings combine compositional structure with expressive, painterly movement, resulting in works that are both technically refined and emotionally resonant. Nicholas has earned numerous honors from the Rockport Art Association & Museum, the Guild of Boston Artists, and leading plein air exhibitions throughout the Northeast. His work is represented in private, corporate, and institutional collections nationwide, admired for its authenticity, warmth, and enduring sense of place—qualities that affirm his position among the leading painters continuing the rich Cape Ann and New England landscape tradition.

The difference between Missoni and M Missoni is that Missoni is an Italian fashion label that is famous for its luxury knitwear designs, and M Missoni is the brand’s casualwear diffusion line, a modestly priced offshoot of the main collection that was founded in 1988. M Missoni is aimed at younger buyers.

In 1953, Ottavio “Tai” (1921–2013) and Rosita (b. 1931) Missoni opened a small knitwear shop in Gallarate, Italy, paving the way for what would become an iconic style of colorful chevron knit.

Missoni began with a tracksuit, which featured zippers down the legs because, as Rosita recalls it, “Tai was too lazy to take off his shoes when putting them on.”

The couple’s fashion really took off, though, once they discovered the Raschel knitting machine on a trip to a shawl factory. The machine enabled the Missonis to knit multiple colors in a zigzag pattern, a motif that would go on to become synonymous with the Missoni brand across everything from its alluring vintage day dresses and sweaters to its purses, seating and rugs.

To tell if an M. C. Escher print is real, examine its details with a magnifying glass. If you see any pixelation, the piece is likely a reproduction. Escher used lithographic techniques to produce his prints, and this method usually involves heavy paper with a noticeable grain and a thicker application of ink. As a result, smooth or glossy paper or fine, light linework typically indicates that a print is a copy. A certified appraiser or knowledgeable art dealer can further assist you with the authentication process. On 1stDibs, shop a collection of M. C. Escher art.
