This antique Victorian sterling silver vesta case has a plain rectangular rounded form.
The anterior surface is embellished with a central enamel design depicting British Navy Code of Signal flags: 'Blue Ball' - a white flag with a blue center, a red flag with a yellow St George's Cross and a blue field with a central horizontal white stripe.
These flags represent the individual letters 'S', 'R' and 'J'; their combined definition is untraced.

A fine sterling silver covered glass flask with cork lined bayonet cap, hallmarked for London 1874 and with makers marks for Wright & Davies (who became a subsidiary of Cartier Ltd). Ovoid shaped body that is curved so the flask sits flatter when in the pocket. The top half of the flask has vertical viewing windows to front and rear and a detachable cup forms the cover to the bottom half of the flask. Engraved with the retailers mark for ‘Thornhill, 144 Bond St' on the bottom.
Applied to the face of the cup in silver is the insignia of British knighthoods of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (later Edward VII 1814-1910).
