Murano hand blown Italian art glass bird sculpture or figurine features a minimal, restrained palette of dark red and off-white with delicate gold lead, or aventurine, accents. The colored glass is encased in a layer clear glass in sommerso technique, adding depth and complexity to the piece. The bird is sitting on sculptural, rounded base, done in clear glass with gold flecks, elevating it without adding a visually heavy element. The main color is referred to as "Ruby Red" in Weil's catalogue of Alfredo Barbini Murano glass.
The piece is marked with the original gold & red oval scalloped foil label, “Venetian - Made by Alfredo Barbini for Weil Ceramics and Glass - Murano Italy”, that was in use in 1960s. It is in very good vintage condition, and is ready to be displayed; it would make a great gift to a collector or a design enthusiast and a great display piece on a shelf or a table, and make a perfect addition to a wide range of interiors, from Traditional to Mid Century Modern, Transitional, Collected, or Contemporary.
