Wendy Klemperer Art

American, b. 1958

Wendy Klemperer was born in 1958 in Boston, Massachusetts. Raised in Cambridge and Watertown, she was most able to explore her passion for animals and nature during summers spent at her grandmother's country house in New Hampshire. The daughter of two chemists, she grew up with dual interests of art and the biological sciences and received a Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from Harvard University before deciding to pursue art full-time. Klemperer moved to New York City in 1980 and studied at Pratt Institute. In the early 1990s, she started welding and soon was concentrating on larger outdoor sculpture. Scrap yards and construction sites provide the raw material for her linear, gestural sculpture. Klemperer finds most of the forms already bent into the piles of rebar, her process is largely to select and cut, tack-welding the pre-existing curves into sculptural form. Klemperer lives in Brooklyn, New York and Nelson, New Hampshire. She has exhibited her work throughout the United States.

Nigella with Black Dryad
By Carmen Almon
Located in New Orleans, LA
Carmen Almon uses copper sheeting, brass tubing, steel wire and enamel paint to create exquisite botanical sculptures. She captures the fragility of a moment in time by interpreting particular plants based on her memories of them. “These botanical compositions seem to defy their sheet-metal origins to come alive. Branches bend, vines loop, leaves twist, and a few surprising bugs, from butterflies to beetles, drop in to colonize her plants.” Through her work, one is reminded of the beautifully illustrated botanical books of the 17th and 18th century – Linneaeus, Ehret, Redouté – which Carmen often refers to for inspiration. Each piece takes up to twelve weeks to complete, therefore, few are realized each year making them rare treasures. In reference to our human connection to flowers, Carmen states, “Romance, marriage, funerals. Subconsciously, they represent so many things, innocent beauty, courage in the face of obstacles and continuity in the cycle of life and death. When I work on a plant, I am often thinking of this.” Almon grew up in Barcelona and Washington DC and resides in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her works are exhibited at the Chinese Porcelain Gallery, NY; and Octavia Art Gallery...

In 2007 he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute in Jiangxi Province. As one of the new generation of Chinese artists and part of the ‘post-80s generation’ and ‘only child’ generation, Huang is strongly influenced by the phenomenon of foreign culture in China, which he combines with his fascination with pottery and the material world. Huang is best known for his sculptures of Buddhas in hoodies, displaying an exchange of Eastern tradition and Western contemporary style. He was selected by “Complex” as “25 Contemporary Chinese Artists You Need to Know” in 2013.
