This is a attractive, high quality, 19th Century Victorian period, crystal cut glass bottle or Jar with a heavy sterling silver lid, handmade and fully hallmarked by William Leuchars, Piccadilly, London, 1881. The bottle or jar sits on a small foot and has an oval shape with vertical flutes that are hand-cut in panel sections. It has a heavy 41 gram sterling silver top or lid which has been made by silversmith William Leuchars of Piccadilly, London and fully hall marked London 1881 (F), the silversmith being registered between 1876 and 1889. It is nice to find a piece which is plain and not engraved with a monogram. The inside of the lid is also stamped as they were Retailers as well as silversmiths in London and Paris. The lid is a very good push fit to the glass jar This is a high quality, very good decorative and useful piece for the desk or dressing table and the jar could be used to hold a variety of items or just as a decorative silver topped bottle...
