For the OMG-GMO project, Robert Stadler borrows the forms of these engineered fruit and vegetables to create ten ceramic, hand-painted objects that ironically transform the organic into something structural and functional. Conceived as a series of small-scale monuments, these objects both criticise and mock human manipulation of nature: a slice of a Japanese rectangular seedless watermelon becomes a stool, zucchini bend in a perfect L shape to create a set of shelves, and wheel-like aubergines support a glass coffee table, as a reference to Gae Aulenti’s Tavolo...

Taher Asad-Bakhtiari (b. 1982, Tehran) is a self - taught artist whose approach focuses on experimentations on objects and textiles to create and reinvent techniques and uses. He has developed several bodies of work including The Tribal Weave Project that breaks hundreds of years of weaving traditions. He re-created pieces that take on new functions as wall partitions, wall coverings, furniture spreads, challenging in their sweep the orthodox notion that “kilims and gabbehs are for the floor.” His work has been shown in several international exhibitions, including the Met (New York), Carwan Gallery (Beirut), Wallpaper Middle East Revealed, Qattan Foundation (London), and Katara Art Centre (Doha). Defined by Goethe “An incredible place, worthy of peaceful thoughts”, Pompeii has the power to transform inanimate archaeological material into narrative matter, merging past and present in a relationship of reciprocity and interaction. Exploring the site, today as then, it is possible to admire the interiors decorated with frescoes that reproduce architectural partitions or that tell stories of myths and divinities, in rooms set up with marble elements that the owner used to display his most precious objects. The Pompeian frescoes were made according to different techniques with colors obtained from earth and minerals such as cinnabar (Pompeian red), ochres (Pompeian yellow), by oxidation processes of metals as in the case of cerulean or by the pulverization of roots and animal bones as in case of greens and blacks.
