These bronze gingko leaf candlesticks inspired by the naturalistic designs of the Art Nouveau period are by Marc Bankowsky. Originally conceived for the restaurant of famed French restauranteur Pierre Gognaire, they proved popular enough that they are now offered to a wider audience. The focal point are the 2 leaves of the gingko. The top of the leaves are scored, the undersides are smooth. The candles are supported by a wonderful spiraling detail at the center of each leaf. Naturalistically cast, with the high areas polished, these candlesticks are hand signed by the artist (see image #10) as well as his cipher that is in the mold. Currently, we have 2 pair available and the collection of 4 would make an impressive statement on a large table. This is a rare and magnificent object fashioned from a rare coco de mer nut and Ostrich egg by Antony Redmile. The box is secured to a wooden base with a silvered stand, holding both sides of the coconut. The coconut is a rich dark chocolate brown and appears to be warmly polished. The top of the box is silvered and adorned with beautiful malachite specimens. 2 small cast resin boar's teeth set with malachite are present on either side of the box, much like handles. This is a unique bronze piece, not editioned, by Marchello Mascherini of a seated figure on a stool playing a guitar. One may interpret the figure as singing as his mouth is open. The figure and the guitar blend and become one in areas, creating ambiguity of definition in the piece. The patina is a deep chocolate brown. The base of the sculpture is marble and measures 3.25" X 3.25". The original tag is still present on the underside of the base, but has faded and is not completely legible. It is signed "M. Mascherini" on one of the legs of the stool. This is definitely a piece worthy of joining any art collection. Marchello Mascherini was born in Udine, Italy, in 1906. He moved to Isernia, the central-southern region of Molise, where he first began learning about sculpture in the local workshops of the area.
