This is an amazing antique hand-carved yellowish-green serpentine pendant that was decorated in 585 (14k) gold around the middle of the 20th century. The Chinese serpentine itself is from approximately the late Qing Dynasty, maybe older. There is a particular type of Chinese jadestone (Chinese serpentine) that can shapeshift between the two kinds of Western-defined jade (Nephrite & Jadeite.) Yet, it is not considered jade in modern definition despite being the original jade used by the Chinese since the Neolithic period.
