Circa late 1940s from the legendary couturier Zelda Wynn Valdes, who was known for creating custom dresses for stars like Ella Fitzgerald. “Zelda Wynn” built her career at the height of Jim Crow segregation; She was likely the first black woman to own a boutique in Manhattan, creating custom gowns that celebrated the curves of stars like Josephine Baker, Mae West, & Marlene Dietrich.
