Italian Ancient Botticino Marble Pair of Pinnacles, circa 1850
Located in Milano, IT
Pair of pinnacles
Northern Italy, mid-19th century
Botticino marble, carved
They measure 33.1 inches in height x 17.7 x 17.7 (84 cm x 45 x 45)
State of conservation: some visible cracks and various small gaps.
The two twin architectural elements of sculpted Botticino marble have a quadrangular base from which a chalice-shaped foot extends. Resting on this, a round pod-like element swells up to support a large pine cone. This is the main decoration: however, the other ornamental details enhance and embellish it, while exalting its position above, whether observed from afar or up close.
These aesthetic characteristics suggest that originally the pair of pinnacles were placed on columns or on architectural plinths...

Antique Italian Painted Oak Interior Door, circa 1850

Beneath the lion’s face is a beautiful Roman-style foliate arabesque flanked by a pair of roundels with vine-like tendrils.

Antique French Painted and Giltwood Overdoor, circa 1850
Located in Dallas, TX
The reign of Napoleon III, often referred to as “The Second Empire”, featured an amalgamation of styles from previous regimes, ranging from the light and airy Rococo of Louis XV to the more stoic Neoclassical trophies of Louis XVI. Our painted giltwood overdoor from circa 1850 is in the vein of a Regence or Louis XV adaptation of the Napoleon III period. The piece is adorned with flowing motifs inspired by nature, such as the curled leaves, scalloped shell, and deep carvings seen on the overdoor.
A main principle of Napoleon III furnishings was to utilize every inch available, as noted by the gadrooned leaf and rinceaux that emanate from behind the center medallion, forming a sprawling border. The medallion features an amazing high relief carving of a floral bouquet surrounded by curled leaves with scrolled tendrils and raised, asymmetrical panels. At the top is a scalloped shell, which is mimicked by a pair of parted leaves set at an angle in each of the upper corners. All of the carvings are presented in giltwood, which pairs nicely with the cream colored background that is enveloped in a quarter round molding (also gilded). The entire grouping is presented as a raised carving, with a thin board behind it that has tas de sable (sandpit) pilasters topped with block finials flanking the overdoor. Unique to most other antique overdoors...

Set of 3 Antique Italian Painted Oak Interior Doors, circa 1850
Located in Dallas, TX
A unique set of three interior doors from Italy, hand-carved in oak around 1850, these doors have been painted a grayish-blue color adorned with golden motifs. Each door has similar geometric and foliate motifs on two rectangular panels with recessed molding. The top panel is aligned in a vertical fashion, with a lion mascaron at the top that is surrounded by curled leaves. Beneath the lion’s face is a beautiful Roman-style foliate arabesque flanked by a pair of roundels with vine-like tendrils.
The second panel beneath is much smaller and has a horizontal orientation. In the center is a vase-form embellishment, encircled by sinuous foliage. All three doors have retained the gudgeons of pintle hinges on the sides, while two of the doors still have a lock/latch system. Our set of three Italian interior doors could be installed with traditional hinges, but they could also be installed with a modern track system, allowing the doors to slide independently of each other. Painted antique doors...
