These beautiful French urns on pedestals are re-editions of 19th century French originals by an unknown manufacturer. This beautiful pair of French urns, measure just over 5 feet tall. Each urn consists of three pieces of cast stone, all with nature-inspired motifs. Both lids are topped with a pinecone finial emerging from a curled leaf cup above two layers of distinct leaves: palmate leaves on a vine on top of thick lanceolate leaves. Curled leaf handles are affixed to each main body (this is the second casting), emerging from a grapevine margent beneath a pair of scalloped shells. The handles terminate on a coil of thick gadrooning beneath a ring of foliage. There is a grapevine swag at the bottom of the bulbous body, just above a lanceolate leaf cup that graces the top of the plinth base, which is the third cast piece. The neck of the base is embellished with recessed fluting in between two foliate circles. To create cast stone items such as this pair of tall and decorative garden urns, crushed stone is combined with cement and poured into a mold, where the combination is allowed to set. Sometimes the artist will introduce a dye to the mixture, in this case a lovely cream coloring agent.
