Pair of Large French Cast Garden Vases after the Models of Jean-Baptiste Pigalle
By Jean-Baptiste Pigalle
Located in Dallas, TX
After the original 18th century garden vases, entitled Autumn, by Jean-Baptiste Pigalle, this pair of large cast garden vases are in the classic krater form. A sprawling scene with mascarons, rams’ heads, and grapevines are set between egg and dart molding and gadrooned lobes. Made with a mixture of crushed stone and cement (known as reconstituted stone), the tall vases were imbued with a cream coloring agent during the casting process. Each vase is supported by a thick rectangular plinth beneath a tapering neck adorned with geometric motifs and Vitruvian waves filled with flowers. These impressive garden vases will make a wonderful statement, inside or outdoors. Originally part of a set of four vases depicting the seasons of Autumn and Spring, which were designed for the Chateau de Choisy by Ange-Jacques...

Pair of Cast and Patinated Stone French Lion Vases on 3-Piece Plinths
Located in Dallas, TX
These beautiful French urns on pedestals are re-editions of 19th century French originals by an unknown manufacturer. The color and consistency of the clay used to make these urns also matches the originals. The color is a rich ochre cream with darker aging. The ornamentation of the urns consists of two lion’s heads and two scrolled handles are at the widest points of the urns. Swags of flower garlands drape gracefully around the urns periphery. Gadrooned lobes cover the undersides of the bodies and the urns’ necks have linear cabochons and reed and ribbon...

Pair of Tall and Decorative French Cast 3-Piece Lidded Garden Urns with Handles
Located in Dallas, TX
This beautiful pair of French urns, measure just over 5 feet tall. Each urn consists of three pieces of cast stone, all with nature-inspired motifs. Both lids are topped with a pinecone finial emerging from a curled leaf cup above two layers of distinct leaves: palmate leaves on a vine on top of thick lanceolate leaves. Curled leaf handles are affixed to each main body (this is the second casting), emerging from a grapevine margent beneath a pair of scalloped shells. The handles terminate on a coil of thick gadrooning beneath a ring of foliage. There is a grapevine swag at the bottom of the bulbous body, just above a lanceolate leaf cup that graces the top of the plinth base, which is the third cast piece. The neck of the base is embellished with recessed fluting in between two foliate circles. To create cast stone items such as this pair of tall and decorative garden urns, crushed stone is combined with cement and poured into a mold, where the combination is allowed to set. Sometimes the artist will introduce a dye to the mixture, in this case a lovely cream coloring agent. After exposure to the elements, the cream finish has developed a truly stunning finish of golden speckles mixed with white, gray, and black patina. Our tall and decorative lidded garden urns...
