An exceptional, fine and impressive antique Charles II English sterling silver porringer; part of our collectable silverware collection.
This exceptional antique Charles II sterling silver porringer has a circular rounded form onto a collet base.
The surface of the porringer is embellished with an impressive chased hunting hound to one side and a stag to the other, all amidst large foliate designs and incorporating pinstruck swirl designs.
This English silver porringer is fitted with two impressive cast, leaf decorated S-scroll handles with elevated figural shaped thumbpieces.
Note: After surviving the Great Fire of London the records at the London Assay office were destroyed by fire in 1681; their catalogues and documentation began again in 1697. Due to this unfortunate event we are unable to associate a maker to this porringer.

The Bowl stands on a circular spreading foot which is decorated with reeding. The main body is plain in design with an attractive baluster form and is engraved with a contemporary "Lion Rampant" Crest. The sides then rise to an everted rim. The stepped pull off cover has a finely beaded rim and rises to a circular raised central section, which doubles as the foot of the tray, when in use. The Bowl is fully marked in the foot and with the maker's mark and sterling mark on the cover. This piece is in excellent condition, with a good colour. Samuel Taylor was a specialist maker of Tea Caddies and Sugar Bowls and was apprentice to the Caddy maker John Newton. He had workshops in Maiden Lane, Wood...

This is a beautiful and rare porcelain octagonal deep serving dish made by Chelsea between 1753 and 1758. The dish is thought to be painted in the James Giles studio with "en camaïeu" teal colored flower garlands hanging off a puce and gilt border around the rim, and a gilt garland worked through the flower garlands.
