Harvey Avedon
The history of the American jewelry trademark “Avedon” began in 1945 in New York. The owner of trademark was Harvey Avedon (2 January 1908-21 June 2005), East Elmhurst, New York based jewelry designer. Yet, the first use of Avedon name was in 1935. So, according to Official Gazette of the United States Patent Office, on October 2, 1935 Harvey Avedon filed an application for patent registration of two of his designs. The StrikALite models included strikers, vanity tube lacquer lighters, and catalin and Bakelite plastic resin table lighters. He was forced to close StrikALite in 1942 due to limited raw materials, which were diverted for WW2 production. The last production of his StrikALite strikers were manufactured with colored crackle finishes. Soon afterward he the talented designer opened Harvey Avedon Sales Corporation in 1945 and worked there until his retirement in 1976. Harvey designed and manufactured precious metal jewelry (silver and gold were available during WW2) and accessories including his popular streamline diagonal cut deco automatic in both sterling silver and 14k gold. This automatic lighter design was created circa 1942 for his fiancée at that time, who later became his wife. During this period he collaborated with such iconic companies as Tiffany & Co. Avedon was known for his gentlemen’s jewelry...

The workshop of Mosley, Flowers & Co, was composed by Robert Frederick Mosley and Arthur Samuel Flowers. They was located in west London at the Albemarle Street. The workshop was registered between the 1912 and 1915. They was specialized in boxes.
Alfred Dunhill
He inherited his father’s London saddlery in 1893. Following the increase in motor car ownership, Alfred developed the business to include motoring accessories, which he called ‘Dunhill’s Motorities’. This included goggles, timepieces, picnic sets, and leather coats, and it wasn’t long before the brand became associated with men’s general motoring attire. They opened two shops in Mayfair and had a catalogue of over 1300 items. Between the 1904 and 1905, Dunhill introduced their ‘Windshield Pipe’, to help drivers combat the effect of wind and travel on their ability to smoke. This marked both the end of the ‘motorities’ focus and their entry into the world of smoking ephemera, and they shortly opened their first tobacconist in 1907 on Duke Street. The proximity to several esteemed Private Members Clubs around the Mayfair, St James’ area ensured that the venture was a success. (From Nicholas Wells With Thanks).
Note: This cigarette case is very similar to some petrol lighters manufactured by Dunhill for the sub-brand Parker Beacon...
