This Charles X period palisander visiting card box was created with a specific purpose. It was originally used by an individual of High Society, either aristocratic or noble, who functioned under a complex set of rules of etiquette regarding social invitations. In order to be invited to the home of someone of equal social standing, one would send a personal visiting card to that person. If a visiting card of the recipient was then received, the invitation was officially accepted. This beautiful palisander marquetry box features two slots on top.
