Antique Hand Carved Gothic Church Panel of Feeding Pelican as Symbol of Christ
Located in Lisse, NL
Stunning religious wall panel in thick relief with strong hook for easy mounting.
For the collectors of stunning antique church relics we are also offering this marvelously hand carved pelican sculpture for wall mounting. The character ascribed to the pelican in this context is nearly as fabulous as that of the phœnix. From a clumsy, gluttonous, piscivorous water-bird, it was by the growth of legends transformed into a mystic emblem of Christ, whom Dante terms "Nostro Pelicano". St. Hieronymus gives the story of the pelican restoring its young ones destroyed by serpents as an illustration of the destruction of man by the old Serpent, and his salvation by the blood of Christ. The pelican in Christian art is an emblem of Jesus Christ, by "whose blood we are healed" and it is also a symbol of charity. Many early painters and carvers mistakenly represented it more similar to an eagle (much like in this antique church relic), and not as a natural pelican which is why most people today still are a bit confused at first when this stunning hand carved, symbolic bird is called a pelican.
This striking and all hand carved, symbolic panel was originally part of a church or monastery communion rail...

Terracotta Beaux Arts Architectural Facade Block Tile
By Louis Sullivan, Stanford White

American terra-cotta Beaux Arts architectural block tile. The academic architectural style taught at the Ecole des Beaux Arts incorporates French Neo-classicism with Renaissance and Baroque elements. This architectural piece is made of cast white glazed terra-cotta. Exquisitely detailed scroll and leaf pattern that can function incorporated into a building facade or a garden element. Good overall condition with some chips and overall crazing to the glaze, but structurally sound and sturdy. No structural cracks to compromise the integrity of the block tile.

Set of 3, African Door Sculptures
Located in New York, NY
Fantastic set of three carved African doors with custom made black metal sculpture stand. Each door rests on a metal stand with two pegs in the front and a set of holes in the back for screws.
Door can be sold without metal stand and hung on a wall.
Each door tells a story of a family and their progeny. They were Crocodile hunters, seafarers, and noblemen with many wives and children.
History:
The Dogon people of Mali are known the world over for their creation of Dogon Doors. The doors have various uses in their society; first as the physical closure to their granaries. Secondly they are created and exchanged as gifts for birthdays, marriages, tokens of luck and rites of passage bequests. Thirdly, when used as a part of the architecture, as a door or shutter, in a private abode, through the use of symbols they are used to describe the occupation of the person or that persons persona or status in the village. Lastly it served as a sign to taxpayers, letting them know which form of payment was accepted in the adjoining building. The symbolic styling of the doors can vary. Pairs of breasts, representing femininity and fertility are usually found. Village dancers wearing the famed rabbit eared Walu mask or the tall Kanaga headdress typically underline the bottom of the door. The Kanaga masks...

Antique Golf Bag, Automaton Caddy by Bussey
Located in Oxfordshire, GB
Antique Caddie Golf bag, George Bussey Automaton Caddie.
A wonderful example of an early auto caddy by George Bussey, in exceptional condition. This is a rare find indeed as very few of these bags have survived, and they are difficult to obtain. To the top of the bag is the remains of 'GEO .G. BUSSEY & Co. Ltd, EXPERT, PATENT CADDIE' (this is normally in gold lettering, but is very faded). The caddie has a boxwood carry handle and the main body of the caddie is made of mahogany. The boxwood handle is attached to the ash legs via metal rods and a brass mechanism. With this clever design, the legs will open out automatically when the lower end is placed on the ground, and will then fold back in when lifted up. The canvas & leather bag for golf balls and the half pencil bag...
