Middle Eastern Moorish Arabic tinned copper jug ewer which was used for storing liquids probably water or milk.
Rustic, with strap handle and chained cap, hammered design around neck and hand etched detailing on neck and top part of the body while the rest of the piece is completely hand hammered with thick copper.
It has a chain connecting the lid to the body of the piece.
Originally designed so they wouldn't loose the lid.
The jug can be opened and closed at the top using a lid secured by a small chain.

Copper containers of varying shapes and sizes have been used all over the world for many centuries.
Copper and its alloys were particularly popular metals for storing and preparing food, not only because they were durable, but because these metals exhibited natural antibacterial properties. This particular jug, most likely made for the storage and serving of liquids such as water or milk, exhibits strong Hispano-Moresque influences. The baluster shape, subtle geometric patterns on the neck, and fitted, "compound" dome lid all reference Spanish Arab design...
