Wire Vases

A fine and well carved Chinese pair of carved malachite vases with loose ring handles and fitted bases, Republic Period, mid 20th century, China. The vases carved from solid malachite of exceptional color and featuring spectacular striations. The vases of baluster form, and ingeniously carved with loose ring handles at the shoulders and the neck. The loose rings supported by taotie (ogre or gargoyle) form mask handles. In addition to the loose ring mask handles to the front and back, the necks of the vases also sport long, angular handles to the sides. Seemingly carved in two sections - the neck and the body. The neck then screws into the body. The neck on one vase stuck. The vases presented on fitted carved and pierced stands with silver wire inlay. Japanese cloisonne enamel rose vase, Tashio period. The vase coloured in a deep green enamel glaze of irregular form with central squashed bulbous body, pinched tapered neck and flared rim. Two white roses sit in the centre of the vase with a green and white hue. The underside signed with the Ando Company mark and Japanese silver Jungin mark. Fine and rare Japanese Komainu cloisonne enamel vase Tashio-early Showa period. The vase of ovoid form decorated in an off white enamel glaze with a boldly coloured temple dog to the centre in a mix of musen-jippo (wireless cloisonne) and yusen (wired). The temple dog standing upon a matching base with simulated mist surrounding the it. Signed on the bottom to the centre with the Shobido of Osaka company mark, the vase mounted on a white metal plated rim. Notes  Shobido - Primarily known as a retailer for high-end giftware including yusen-jippo cloisonné. Examples of Shobido cloisonné vases are often very innovative and incorporate many techniques. A delightful group of five small Japanese cloisonné vases in various colors and designs, Meiji period, early 20th century, Japan. The vases all of baluster form and decorated in the cloisonné technique with goldstone highlights. Vase 1: Dark blue enamel ground with butterflies and scrolling flowers and vines. 6" x 3" Vase 2: Green enamel ground with diamond shaped reserves of alternating burgandy enamel with goldstone and butterfly design, and dark blue enamel with pink flower design. Interior enameled green. 6" x 2.88" Vase 3: Dark blue enamel ground with bands of scrolling abstracted flowers with goldstone highlights, and one band of lapets of alternating burgundy and green enamel with stylized flowers.
