Asian Figural Bronze Table Lamp of a Lying Buddha with Green Shade Myanmar 1920s

Located in Salzburg, AT

This early 20th-century Mandalay-style reclining monk, made of patinated bronze, has been transformed into a figurative table lamp. The disciple has a peaceful face and a resting, elegant posture. His face is handsome, with a slight smile and a straight nose. His robe lies in lush, wave-like folds on the surface of his body, reflecting the soft contours of the body beneath. The robe is richly decorated and suggests embroidery in silver, gold, and pearls. To match the object, the lamp structure was crafted in bronze and fitted with two sockets. The rectangular, dark green shade completes the lamp. Dimensons of sculpture on base: W 43 x D 12 x H 18cm The Mandalay-style Buddhist monk statue...

Table Lamp Sitting Wooden Mandalay Priest with Decorations, Burma, 19th Century

Located in Salzburg, AT

Small table lamp of a sitting priest made of wood with gilded finish. The noble object comes from 19th century Burma, the priest has a clear look and pleasing posture. The robe has falls backwards over the shoulder casually on the floor. Borders decorated with pieces of colored glass adorn the garment. The red Bolus under the gilding, which can be seen in places, and the patina that has already formed add depth and enhance the character of the object. The lamp construction in bronze was made especially for the object, handmade & patinated oval shade. The priest sits loosely on the lamp plateau and can also be aligned a little there. A very decorative figurative lamp with 2 light sources that give light up and down. Mandalay Period: 1853 - 1948 Mandalay Buddha figure Mandalay was considered the center of Buddhism in Burma. King Mindon moved the capital from Amarapura to this new place and named it the city of Mandalay. This place was chosen because of a prediction said to have been made by Gautama Buddha, stating that a major city, a Buddhist metropolis, would be built on this spot, on the 2400th anniversary of Buddhism. The political center of this new city has a perfect geometric shape of a Buddhist mandala, due to which the city was named Mandalay. The Mandalay period ended when the Burmese gained their independence from the British. Buddha figurines from the Mandalay period The Mandalay Buddha is generally considered to be the Burmese interpretation of Buddhism. The Buddha figures...
