A gold, antique Swedish Gustavian freestanding console table made of hand crafted gilded Pinewood with a white-grey painted marble top, designed and produced most likely by Jonas Frisk in good condition. The edges, borders of the Scandinavian side table are enhanced by detailed tablecloths and palmettes carvings and porphyry-imitating sides, supported by four round twisted tapered legs, collar and ball, standing on a rectangular wooden base. Minor fading, scratches due to age. Circa 1810 - 1820, Stockholm, Sweden, Scandinavia. Jonas Frist was a Swedish artist and designer, born in 1787, in Stockholm, Sweden and passed away in 1849. An amazing Regency period gilt and ebonised centre table with a specimen marble and micro-mosaic top. The wonderful top is built up out of a plethora of different marbles and stones all mosaiqüed together and banded by a border made of 44 different marble specimens, including samples of lapis lazuli, red and green porphyry, several types of onyx, jasper, breccia and many others. In the centre of the top sits a micro-mosaic panel depicting in detail the ruins of the Roman forum bordered by a slate and malachite band. The top sits on a wonderful anthemion decorated frieze on a fluted column and tripartite base decorated with a greek key finished on scroll feet. The most impressive urn is raised by a circular base with a fine stepped and mottled border. At the center is an impressive and most decorative reeded design below the smooth elegantly curved body with richly sculpted scrolled handles at each side. Above the curved neck is the removable lid also decorated with a beautiful reeded design, mottled band, and centered by a striking ormolu acorn finial. All original gilt. Porphyry was Imperial Rome’s most prestigious stone for columns, vases, and other objects. The word “porphyry” comes from the Latin word for purple, which was the color of nobility to the Romans.
