Circa 1750, English Georgian ii Period Mahogany Armchair with Modern Fabric
Located in Chicago, IL
Circa 1750 English Georgian II period mahogany armchair. The George II period was most noted for its intricate chairs. Like the other Georgian periods, this one was named after the monarch during the time. Under George II, mahogany became the predominant wood used for fine furniture. Many of the styles were symmetrical and had architectural curves, inspired by the Gothic. These works were very expensive and only the rich could afford and buy them. This specific armchair has a frame entirely carved from mahogany, which was a strong and durable wood that was also naturally water resistant and offers natural resistance against pests. The back of the chair has a splat design. Splats were an important element of eighteenth-century English chairs, offering support. It originated from the importation of Chinese Ming Dynasty chairs...

Charles Dudouyt Armchairs, 1940s, Set of 2
Located in Lonigo, Veneto
Charles Dudouyt armchairs, straw and wood, France, 1940s, set of two. Recalling the turned chair model, Charles Dudouyt created these carved chairs as 'fireside' chairs, hence the low seats. Using playful geometries and construction, he crafted the wooden structure in Art Deco forms. The seats' original straw is preserved and creates a charming contrast with the dark wooden structure. The legs are joined by crosspieces, enhancing the square shape of the design. Dudouyt enriched the typical French straw chair...

Pair of Armchairs, Walnut, Leather, Upholstered, Renaissance, Paw Feet, Tozer
Located in BUNGAY, SUFFOLK
These are in sound condition and very usable whilst retaining their integrity and character. It is unusual for the arms to be fully upholstered and this feature adds to the comfort and gives the chairs a soft quality. The double-banded studwork is an unusual feature demonstrating the fine quality of these chairs. The paw feet create gravitas which together with their form and patina invokes the Renaissance mood. They inject atmosphere into any interior whether it is traditional or contemporary. The upholstered backs, arms and seats are upholstered in the original brown leather which has a lovely patina and is still robust with some signs of wear which are customary for the use and age of the chairs. The leather is faced with double-rows of brass studwork around the backs and seats and single rows around the arms which create a decorative feature. The chairs are standing on shaped column-turned legs evoking the Renaissance-style joined by H-stretchers. The front legs on paw feet another Renaissance feature. Excellent original color and patina. Measures: Back height 91cm., 3ft. Seat height 46cm.,18in, width 61cm, 2ft. Depth 50cm., 20in. High Provenance: Labels to underside : W Charles Tozer...

Located in BUNGAY, SUFFOLK
It is uncommon to find sets of armchairs as they are generally made in pairs and I have never seen a set of four Renaissance-period armchairs. These are in sound condition and very usable whilst retaining their integrity and character. The double-banded studwork is an unusual feature demonstrating the fine quality of these chairs. The paw feet create gravitas which together with their form and patina invokes the Renaissance mood.
