About the Item

Unique signed bench by Jörg Pietschmann Materials: Wood Measures: H 89, Seatheight 50 x W 224 x D 55 cm Bench composed of precious and expressive wood. Polished oil finish. In Pietschmann’s sculptures, trees that for centuries were part of a landscape and founded in primordial forces tell stories inscribed in the memory of their fibers. The forms Jörg Pietschmann pares from ancient trees are extensive and astonish with their physical presence, a combination of elegance and primeval nature. Pietschmann’s sculptures are monuments to the trees from which they derive. Being endowed with the ruggedness of primeval matter gives them a veritable vitality: figures that appear to have grown into their sculptural form of their own accord. But Pietschmann’s tangibly present bodies have undergone a considerable degree of metamorphosis. In order to generate these unique tree specimens he examines the tree’s morphology and intrinsic inner map until the courses of its grain, of a curve, knots and cracks concur with his projections. The exploratory process is accompanied by constant modification, giving at the start of each new piece no more than an intimation of the figure that will later emerge. In their completion, Pietschmann’s sculptures once more become universal form. Jörg Pietschmann's workshop is situated on the countryside close to Hamburg. He works with indigenous timber as oak, lime tree, beech, poplar, olive tree and maple felled by the wind or human hand, together with tropical timber found on his travels.

Balanço Bench by Rodrigo Ohtake, Brazilian Contemporary Design
By Rodrigo Ohtake
Located in Sao Paulo, SP
The Balanço Bench was created by the Brazilian contemporary designer Rodrigo Ohtake, in 2019. The mix of materials is the differential in this series. While wood is used as a seat, a metal plate, thick and curved, raises the first material from the ground in a light way and with minimal contact, both with the floor and with the wood. The structure is made of stainless steel and Cumaru Wood. Definitely a one of a kind and unique piece. Graduated at FAU / USP in 2009, with a period of studies at the Polytechnic of Milan, Rodrigo Ohtake is always in search of his own architectural style. Passionate about colors and free forms, he collaborated with architects Mario Biselli, Alvaro Puntoni, and Frenchman Patrick Jouin, in addition to working with his father, Ruy, from 2008 to 2016. In addition to working in the offices, he participated as a curatorial assistant in the exhibitions "Viver na Floresta", curated by Abílio Guerra, "O Coração da Cidade: Invention of Spaces" by Júlio Katinsky...
