A pair of bentwood armchairs designed by Jacob & Josef Kohn, Austria, circa 1910 and made by their factory in Czechoslovakia. The overall form of the chairs is incredibly striking but less obvious is the attention paid to the disparate pieces. Every element within the overall form of the chairs is sculpted, with each section of wood gradually and harmoniously transforming. This separates the chair from Seccessionist peers. The armrests taper (from the precise thickness of the lacquered sections at the front of the seat to the approximate slimness of the brace supports), the arch that creates the backrest tapers, each leg tapers and most obviously and invitingly, the seat tapers. In keeping with the strong early 20th century aesthetic of Kohn's design, we have upholstered the chair in a plush green silk velvet, similar to its original, which brilliantly contrasts the black lacquered frame.
