About the Item

The chair is in very good vintage condition with few signs of use appropriate to age and wear. The fibre plastic chair series is probably the most popular design icons that was designed in the Eames Office. It emerged in the late 1940ies when experimentation with fibre plastics became available for mass production. The high manufacturing efficiency and quality of the then new fibre plastics and the possibility of casting almost every shape was the technical requirement for a type of new furniture. It was Charles and Ray Eames who were the predecessors of the field. Their elegant product was a true revolution in furniture design history and became a true icon in furniture design. This chair’s shell is from 1963 and has been produced by Cincinatti Milacron for Herman Miller in the US. Milacron had been the third company to produce the shells on the US before Vitra began to produce it as well in Europe.
