FINE HENRY VIII LINKED ANTIQUE 1631 CHARLES I ROCKiNG CHAIR DEPICTING ADAM & EVE
Located in West Sussex, Pulborough
Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this super rare and highly collectable hand carved 1631 dated Charles I rocking chair with ornately carved panels depicting Adam & Eve with the forbidden fruit and some very interesting Henry VIII links
Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, it covers within the M25 only for the UK and local Europe only for international, if you would like an accurate quote, please send me your postcode and I’ll provide you with the exact price.
This has to be the most decorative and interesting rocking chair I have ever had the please to purchase, it is 393 years old and some wonderful early 17th century carvings. Starting at the top you have a winged Armorial crest under which is written "Alis Volat Propriis" which is Latin for "She Flies With Her Own Wings" either side of that is the date 1631, following on down you have the exquisite Adam & Eve scene of Adam refusing the forbidden fruit, this is bordered by Jacobean style carvings and is dated to the top again 1631, following further down you have the name Countess Margaret Chaney, the countess lived from 1565-1608 when she was executed by King Henry VIII, I will include the biography below as it makes very interesting reading. The final piece of carving reads "Hush Abye Baby" reffering to the fact that this was most likely a nursing chairs for babies
It seems that this could have possibly been the countesses chair...
