Before being repurposed into a bistro / side table, this cast iron base was part of a sewing table from Belgium, circa 1900. The ¾” inch thick white carrara marble top with gray veining was added more recently, allowing a butcher shop in southern Belgium to use this as a display table.
A small pad foot sits beneath each of the four legs that are formed by a series of intertwining C- and S-scrolls and florets. The entire base has been painted dark green, while the outside facades have a raised fluted motif. In the center of the base is a large medallion that is affixed to each leg by a C-scroll (the bottom scrolls are reinforced by square bolts and washers). The medallion consists of a pair of intertwined volute scrolls surrounded by an ovate border. Two of the legs are connected by a horizontal bar, which is the remnant of the foot treadle from the old sewing table.
This Belgian cast iron and carrara marble table would make a nice outdoor bistro table...
