A profusely carved antique Southeast Asian sewing work table with beautifully aged patina of warm and rich coloring.
Exquisitely handcrafted in Indonesia in the late 19th century, exceptionally executed, featuring an ornate cartouche shaped hinged lid top with finely detailed flowering vine foliate motif, figural serpent dragon and large exotic peacock bird of paradise carvings.
The top opens to reveal an interior fitted with a removable divided compartment tray, above open interior storage space.
Rising on sculptural stylized twisted dragon scrolled openwork sweeping supports, joined by a medial shelf stretcher, terminating in fish styled outward splayed feet. The elegant work of functional art having deep reddish coloring, rustic warmth, and artistic depth, pegged mortise joinery, two tiers, and intricate carvings add to the overall antique character, charm and functionality of this incredible small size table
