This absolutely stunning pair of 17th C. Portuguese polychromed brackets features eagles with outstretched wings upholding the tops of the brackets. Not only are there traces of old paint, as you can see, each one has parcel gilding. Surrounding the eagles are beautifully hand carved, acanthus leaf c-scrolls which all but meld into the shapes of the wings. The seasoned artist who sculpted and carved these brackets has artfully been able to show fabulous movement in these static pieces of art.
