About the Item

Exceptional electric clock (powered by a standard round LR14 battery) in Art Deco style, transparent glass with a round nickel-plated case on a glass base featuring three steps, with chrome metal mounts and borders. The dial, typically Art Deco, is transparent and showcases the movement of the electromagnetic pendulum within a double circle surround. The hands are geometrically shaped, characteristic of the period and documented models by Léon HATOT. Signed "Ato." In good condition, works intermittently. Electric movement with a battery, lever to activate the pendulum. ATO is a prestigious watchmaking brand founded by Léon Hatot (1883-1953). He was trained at the École Nationale d'Horlogerie de Besançon from 1895 to 1898. It wasn't until 1905 that he began producing and engraving watch cases in precious metals. Between 1918 and 1919, he built the factory for "watchmaking and jewelry" specializing in luxury timepieces. In 1923, he turned his attention to developments in horology and collaborated with engineer Marius Lavet, a graduate of the École supérieure d'Électricité. He then began producing electric clocks, marketed under the Ato brand starting in 1923. Two years later, in 1925, he won the Grand Prix of Decorative Arts. Léon Hatot is considered one of the pioneers of high-end electric clocks. H : 34 cm, W : 30 cm, D : 12 cm.
