About the Item

It is assumed to be vintage French (Brise) fan from 1875 - 1889 Period: 1870 - 1900 This tortoiseshell fan is a rare collector's piece that originated in Europe. It is from French Austria, or Germany. It is lined by a silk tread and has the initials MK emblazoned in gold. They represent the initials of the owner during that period. It is in superb condition. A similar one is currently displayed in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, although not in as good a condition as this. Its owner would have been a member of a bougeouis community and high society. It would be wonderful to determine who she really was and what her name was (MK initials on fan) Perhaps it was Magdalena Margaretha Kaiser (born Kreis, Kayser ), 1843 - 1905. We are a third generation company (over 100 years) and have been established in Hong Kong since 1961. We stand by our descriptions and accuracy and promise to deliver fair and equitable products to all. Please contact us for any queries. Happy shopping!
