Early 20th century 99 piece set of Limoges France porcelain dinnerware by A. Lanternier & Co. White porcelain with tulip / floral vine pattern gold encrusted edging and gilt accents. Set includes: Oval Serving Plate, Serving Dish with Lid, 11 Dinner Plates, 9 Salad Plates, Footed Gravy Boat, 9 Bread Plates, Small Oval Dish, 2 Tea pots with Lids, 24 Saucers, 10 Bone Dishes, Sugar Bowl with Lid, Creamer, 12 Single Handle Teacups, 12 Double Handle Teacups. Mark used circa 1918-1929. "François Frédéric Lanternier established a luxury porcelain workshop in 1857. Partnering with Breuil he took over the Chabrol factory and started producing porcelain, which was artistically hand decorated in his studio. The company carried on an extensive exporting business with table china being the primary product line. In 1890 the company was joined by Frederic's son, Alfred Lanternier. Alfred gained experience working in England as a Wedgewood representative. The company changed name to A. Lanternier & Co. They bought another porcelain factory in Limoges. A large and impressive antique 106 piece set of Limoges porcelain dinnerware produced by Haviland & Company in The Amstel pattern (aka Schleiger, number 497A), for the Jones, McDuffie and Stratton Company. Pattern features double lined gilt edges and a pink rose garland border, with one spray spilling down the side of each piece. Service for 8-10. In 1840 he made his first trip to France to establish an alliance with a manufacturer who could create pieces of porcelain for the American trade. He settled in Limoges in 1842, where he founded his own company and manufacturing facility, and began exporting wares directly to his brothers who remained in New York. Their new company was called Haviland Brothers & Company. There were numerous china manufacturers in Limoges, but the Haviland Company was the first to have artists on site to do the decorating. By 1853 they were the largest importer of French porcelain into the United States. The effects of the Civil War were so pronounced that Haviland Brothers & Co. had to close its doors. David Haviland saw this as an opportunity to go into business for himself and rebranded as Haviland and Company. After the Civil War, David sent his son, Théodore, to the U.S. to handle distribution and marketing. Production dramatically increased and another son, Charles Edward Haviland, took over management of the firm from his father. Landers, Frary & Clark was a housewares company based in New Britain, Connecticut. The firm traced its origins to 1842, when George M. Landers and Josiah Dewey entered into a partnership named Dewey and Landers, which manufactured various metal products. Eventually, the company was reorganized as Landers, Frary & Clark in 1862. The firm produced a variety of household products and appliances, including many electric appliances. Some of Landers, Frary & Clark's most successful products included the Universal Bread Maker, the Universal Food Chopper, and the Coffee Percolator. In 1965, the majority of the Landers, Frary & Clark was taken over by the J.B. Williams Company of New York, the food chopper division was acquired by the Union Manufacturing Company, and the electrical appliance operations was purchased by General Electric.
