Back Bay Pied-à-Terre
This large penthouse apartment, in an early 1940’s building in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston, needed extensive renovation work.
The homeowners were seeking an environment that was sophisticated, comfortable, and elegant.
The entry hall is kept intentionally simple. The elegant walls and moulding are drenched in “Sugar Bag Light” Farrow and Ball paint, hand-painted green and gold wallpaper on the ceiling, supported by an intricate marquetry inlaid floor. The only remaining element from the original house is the 1930’s crystal and brass ceiling light fixture, unmoved from its original location.
The kitchen -- used as much for catering as for an after-midnight grilled cheese sandwich after a night on the town – was designed to have a sexy, after-hours club feel to it. This kitchen was meant to be enjoyed by candlelight while tucked into the warm honey leather upholstered corner seating area, sipping on a dry Manhattan. Prussian Blue painted cabinetry, custom table, reflective gold wallpaper on the ceiling.
The home office was meant to feel more like a Parisian boudoir than a corporate workplace. A silk Tibetan carpet, a vintage Emilio Pucci scarf framed and hovering over the soft velvet sofa; a room filled with books and sculpture.
The master bedroom, a calm respite from the hustle of the city outside – yet still dog-friendly enough for their two high-spirited dogs, who happen to be welcome on the bed.
The main living room has an abundance of comfortable upholstered seating in French linens and luxurious mohair, a game table, a bar, art - a mix of abstract and traditional - carefully curated from a large variety of 1st Dibs vendors.
A simple, quiet color palette of pale blush, greens and oat were chosen for the living room; contrasting with the charcoal grays and heather in the den.
