CHAVÓN Colonial City

CHAVÓN CIUDAD COLONIAL / STUDIO AD was selected to design CHAVÓN School of Design’s campus in Santo Domingo’s Colonial City. During the pandemic, the School opened a campus for the School of Fine Arts in Santo Domingo’s Colonial City. When tasked with refurbishing an abandoned 1700s/1800s house, STUDIO AD’s main challenge was to reimagine the house as a space that would host an Art School with 4 enclosed classrooms, a large art studio, an outdoor area, and spaces for the students to interact. However, with little intervention to the existing building, the renovation was made possible. The building’s original walls, ceiling beams, existing floors, wooden windows, and old doors were retained and repaired locally. CHAVÓN, founded in affiliation with Parsons School of Design and located in the Dominican Republic, is a global art and design education center.
