The prerevolutionary towns of Litchfield county are known for their rural landscape of rolling hills and historic clapboard farmhouses. Working with architect Timothy Bryant, we designed a new house based on an eighteenth-century Colonial. Overlooking a pristine lake at the end of a long, winding driveway flanked by an apple orchard, the house is contextual and well proportioned; my goal was to decorate it with a nod to the past while making it practical for the present.
