Desert Modern
The design team and client established a guiding mantra for this home’s design philosophy: “DWELLING” . It would represent the intent of the space which would be of the earth, connected to the beautiful vernacular of the Sonoran Desert, and a place of togetherness and loving shelter for this young family to grow.
The Design Team captured the client’s needs and dreams by combining the elements of the desert landscape to sculpt the interior with authentic materials, rammed earth fireplace features, ceruse oak millwork, raffia wall textures, pigmented formed concrete, and leathered limestone flooring. The color palette and materiality of the home would be based in neutrals that would play back and forth with tension in cool and warm tones while also including textural interest.
In planning the clients forever home, it was important to look for classic timeless design that would honor their long-term investments.
To honor the concept of “dwelling” and the owner’s Guatemalan roots, tribal and ethnic nods are used throughout the home’s furnishings such as textiles, pottery, and even carved Mayan masks. Modern Italian pieces are mixed with vintage finds, such as the 1960’s cognac leather Brazilian lounge chairs. The Great Room is grounded by a bespoke white oak coffee table designed by the designer as a one of a kind is inspired by canyon wall strata layers, it adds organic movement to soften the space.
The sleek oak paneled integrated kitchen is designed around a unique feature, a solarium that provides fresh year around herbs and greens for a healthy lifestyle.
The suspended fireplace of the Great Room and the Primary Bedroom’s double-side fireplace are clad in rammed earth using pigmented dirt pounded in a form.
