Modernization of this BedStuy townhome required a gut renovation to include painstaking restoration of its original plaster mouldings, newly laid herringbone flooring throughout and a reimagined vision for the primary suite. Pietro Russo's Canaletto, iron and brass shelving unit bisects the parlour level where a vintage Sciolari chandelier crowns the foyer and lilac velvet Karl Springer barrel chairs and a 1950s Federico Munari sofa grace the adjacent sitting room. In the kitchen, Bertoia bar stools surround a heavily-veined monolithic Carrara marble island. Occupying the second floor and flanked by a bedroom and office, an enlarged dressing room and private water closet wrapped in a hand-painted wallcovering of gold and emerald pigments and grounded by large scale marble mosaic tile comprise the main bathroom where suspended medicine cabinets surmount a custom Nero Marquina trough sink. Illuminated closets are accessed via bronze mirror clad pivot doors with inset walnut pulls and clever shoe storage on the reverse. In the adjacent wet room, an automotive finish sprayed tub seems to hover on walnut block feet, surrounded by walls swathed in Tadelakt and ribbed limestone.
