MERRICK
This modified shingle-style manse in the heart of Bethesda, Maryland has become an inviting and lively environment for a couple who are equally committed to their family and to the Washington DC community. The house was built in 1995 and was originally decorated in a tasteful, understated manner that the clients had outgrown, and perhaps, never really loved. Traditionalists at heart, but modern in spirit they enjoy both ends of the design spectrum and welcome a dynamic dialog between them. To marry a strong, eclectic aesthetic with an august envelope, Tricia Huntley used nature as a touchstone for all design decisions. Regardless of how dramatic or contemporary an element (the more contemporary the better per the wife), there needed to be a nod, wink -- or even a playful jab at times -- to the organic world. The end result is a home that is charismatic and, at last, beloved.
