Family Home by Dillon Kyle Architecture in US
We took a spirited approach to designing this home. Using traditional materials — plank siding and recycled brick — in unexpected ways gives the building a presence that straddles past and present. Bringing the clapboard-style siding indoors and running it vertically on the walls emphasizes the generous height and modern proportions of the rooms and adds a bit of contemporary texture to the design, as well. French doors and tall windows topped with transoms let sunlight shine deep into the home and also provide a strong, rhythmic visual connection to nature outside. We paid particular attention to the floor plan of the house, sequencing the spaces in a way that feels both fluid and comfortable.
