Utah European Modern

Located in Utah, this home was designed for a young family with four kids by Light and Dwell, an Oregon-based interior design firm co-founded by CEO Aymee Kuhlman and Principal Designer Molly Kidd. This modern European home is the perfect place where the owners, a doctor and entrepreneur, can both entertain guests or relax. The family was drawn to warmer tones, so Kidd incorporated a variety of beige tones and unlacquered brass finishes throughout the home. Much of the inspiration for the home, specifically the wallpaper patterns in the bedroom and bathrooms, were pulled from elements from the French Riviera.

Immediately entering through the French-style front doors, the entry is filled with light filtering through the windows. The brick flooring from CLE tile is laid in a herringbone pattern, showcasing the detail that is prominent throughout the entire home. Originally, this stone arrived in the color red. The last-minute decision to change to brick ended up being one of Kidd’s favorite features.

The primary bedroom feels elegant with a canopy bed from McGee & Co. To add to the wooden theme, Kidd selected an Off Cut Handmade nightstand placed next to the bed. Sitting atop the nightstand is a McGee & Co. lamp. A favorite space in the home is the primary bathroom. The space feels calm and serene yet warm with the wood-toned cabinets underneath the marble countertops. Both the antique danish armchair and rug in the primary bathroom are vintage pieces, adding pops of color to the room.

The second bathroom features botanica-inspired pattern wallpapers from the French Riviera from Anthropologie. To juxtapose its feminine glamor, Kidd selected a custom floating Honed Marble vanity. The second bedroom also features a similar botanica-inspired pattern wallpaper to match the bathroom. The beige upholstered bed frame from McGee & Co. pairs well with the wooden nightstand beside the bed, also from McGee & Co.
