Did Gucci make watches?

Yes, Gucci has made watches since 1972. A European watchmaking firm called Alexis Barthelay was slated to produce the company’s inaugural line of watches. Instead, when the task proved too monumental for the firm, a Belgian-born salesman for Alexis Barthelay, Severin Wunderman, broke off from the company to start his own firm in order to specifically make Gucci watches. The Severin Montres Group produced the Italian brand’s luxury timepieces until Gucci acquired the firm in 1997.
