How do I know if my frame is gilded?

How do I know if my frame is gilded?
To determine if a frame is gilded, look at the finish and materials used to make it. A gilded frame will have a 22-karat gold leaf applied directly on the frame’s surface. Gold leaf does not tarnish and maintains its sheen or hue. When in doubt, work with a certified appraiser to determine the authenticity of your gilded frame. You’ll find a variety of expertly vetted antique gilded frames on 1stDibs.
