Categorized by crafting techniques, the four basic types of sculpture are molded, cast, carved and assembled. Sculptors produce molded sculptures by shaping materials and carved sculptures by cutting away at them. Cast sculptures start with a mold later filled with liquid metal or plaster. Armand Godard made many chryselephantine statuettes in bronze and ivory in the Art Deco style, especially for the foundry Edmond Etling. In the 1920s and 1930s, he exhibited in Paris in the salons of the Society of French Artists. During the 1937 Universal Exhibition in Paris, he showed a monumental statue 4.5 meters high and a patinated plaster sculpture.
