What is a Roman curule?
1 Answer
The word curule in ancient Rome referred to something that had the authority of senior magistrates. Because of the status of these people, they sat upon a sella curulis, which was a special seat that can be folded up due to its X shape. Today, the term curule seat, curule chair or curule stool is used to describe the shape of these distinctive seats. Shop a collection of curule seats from some of the world’s top sellers on 1stDibs.
