What is a Tantalus Decanter?

A Tantalus Decanter is a wooden container with a lock and key for glass decanters. The basic framework of the piece, first patented in 1881 by George Betjemann, permits two, three, and sometimes four decanters to be secured within it, visible yet inaccessible when locked.
