What is a tobacco basket?

After the large wooden barrels that were once used to export tobacco to auction houses fell out of favor, a smaller, streamlined tobacco basket took their place — the design of these baskets, which were pivotal to getting tobacco leaves to market and keeping the leaves clean in auction houses, is frequently credited to R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company. Nowadays, tobacco baskets are decorative items.
