What is an original artwork?

An original artwork is an artwork made by the hand of the artist, be it a painting, a drawing, a carved sculpture, etc. Because of their fabrication process, bronze sculptures have a somehow different meaning of "original", which may depend on the local legislation : in France, a numbered bronze molding made directly from the artist's mold qualifies as an "original" if the total number of specimens is less or equals to eight, plus four "artist's proofs".
