The difference between a sofa and a sectional comes down to design. A sofa is a one-piece cushioned and upholstered furnishing that seats two or more people at one time. A sectional offers seating for multiple users as well, but it consists of individual pieces, such as loveseats, chaises, chairs, recliners and corner components that can be arranged side by side to create unique configurations.
