The Swiss-born watch designer Gerald Genta is responsible for the Universal Genève Polerouter watch. In 1954, Universal Genève asked the young designer to design a watch to commemorate Scandinavian Airlines Systems polar flights. The watch was called the Polarouter and later the Polerouter, and has led to a successful family of watches for Universal Genève.
