Why is alexandrite so expensive?
1 Answer
The reason why alexandrite is so expensive comes down to supply and demand. Compared to some other gemstones, alexandrite is rarer, so it is simply less available to be mined. In addition, there are also fewer mining operations devoted to sourcing the gem. At the same time, many people love alexandrite due to its unique color-changing appearance and strength. The low supply and the high demand combine to drive up the price of alexandrite. Shop a selection of alexandrite jewelry on 1stDibs.
