With just a few strokes of his brush he conjures up an entire world. James Coignard extends the boundaries between concrete and abstract. He knows how to create chromatic melodies that shift in timbre from cobalt blue to blood red. His pictures are an artistic epicentre where lines, letters and numbers meld with vigorous swashes of colour.” That is how the writer Johan Persson has described the artist’s paintings.
With this exhibition we honour James Coignard, showing some of his last carborundum engravings and paintings as well as presenting the book “L’œuvre gravé de James Coignard” volume VI. In this edition, we have gathered together all the engravings that James Coignard produced between June 2005 and his decease, on 7 March 2008. Behind him he left many fond memories and a life’s work as a great artist.
James Coignard’s principal modes of expression were oil on canvas and gravure au carborundum, but also in bronze and glass sculptures as well as in ceramics. His work has been shown on more than 400 exhibitions, primarily in Central Europe and Scandinavia, but also in Canada and the USA. His first Swedish exhibition was at Malmö Museum in 1956. The early 1970s saw the start of a long-term liaison with Galleri Östermalm in Stockholm, owned by Editions Sonet. CYCLOPS is a hand-tooled aluminum intaglio print on Rives BFK 250g paper with deckle edge. It is a framed monotype in black matte wood with spacers under glass to maintain the deckle edge of paper. The print floats on museum board using archival Hayaku Japanese Hinging Paper. Like Wortsman's sculptures, the abstract components here seem to possess both organic and geometric forms. Note the four corners of black, bracing the center serpentine shape of copper and black speckled white – it is characteristic of Wortsman's practice. Warm, contemporary, uniquely crafted, yet speaks to ancient, tribal traditions of art-making that cross cultures and histories. Highly attuned to the indigenous art of Africa, the Middle East, India and Asia, his forms are organic and geometric abstracts with masculine and feminine attributes that resonate together as a pleasing enigma. They make sense immediately, yet never give up all their secrets.

Suzan Etkin's passionate involvement with glass began in 1993, when she was invited to design sculptural chandeliers for gallery exhibitions with Giorgio Giuman and master glass blowers in Murano, Italy.
Prior to working with glass as a medium she was the production manager for Andy Warhol Factory (Production Manager, Film & Video), and quickly emerged as a conceptual artist of global recognition. Her work has been shown in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Paul Kasmin Gallery, Holly Solomon Gallery, and other museums and galleries around the world.
In 2001, Suzan founded sei studio in SoHo with her husband, Brenden FitzGerald. They have collaborated with some of the industry’s most innovative architects and interior designers to produce custom chandeliers and art features for hundreds of landmark spaces, including the W Hotel Seoul, Mandarin Oriental New York, and Intercontinental Hong Kong. Caviar20 is excited to be offering this striking collage by the inimitable Louise Nevelson, who is regarded as one of the most original, influential, and successful American sculptors of the 20th century.
Nevelson's enduring appeal lies in her distinct visual language, which is apparent in all of her works, regardless of medium. While her iconic monochromatic wood assemblages are instantly recognizable, she continuously experimented with diverse materials, including resin, steel, and bronze, as well as numerous printmaking techniques.
Collage was an important part of Nevelson's practice, defining her signature aesthetic. Much like her approach to printmaking, her collages possess a sculptural ethos that transcends the two-dimensional surface, imbuing the composition with a remarkable sense of volume, texture, and depth. One could argue that Nevelson's sculpture was informed by collage in that she took assorted existing forms combining them in order to create an entirely new and distinct arrangement.
This untitled collage is an exceptional example of the artist's mastery of the medium. Featuring an assemblage of wood veneer, mirror, and metal, this work reflects Nevelson's meticulous sense of form and rhythm. Subtle details, such as the alternating direction of the wood veneer grain further heighten the visual complexity of the otherwise minimal composition.
The inclusion of wood veneer marks a notable shift for Nevelson, who was previously loyal to a strict monochromatic palette of black or white. It wasn’t until the 1970s with her experimentation in collage that she expanded her palette. Nevelson also created jewellery and this collage acknowledges her activity in that realm.
Created at the age of 83 during the final chapter of her career, this piece powerfully captures Nevelson's enduring spirit and dedication to artistic innovation.
Today Nevelson's work can be found in every major public collection across North America and beyond.

With the exception of the dark metallic one they are transparent and opaque glass. I have shot the photos on a dark background so you can better see the images. they are signed in ink, dated and numbered from the edition of 25. I am selling them individually. the box from Vincent Fremont Multiples is not included.
Suzan Etkin's passionate involvement with glass began in 1993, when she was invited to design sculptural chandeliers for gallery exhibitions with Giorgio Giuman and master glass blowers in Murano, Italy.
Prior to working with glass as a medium she was the production manager for Andy Warhol Factory (Production Manager, Film & Video), and quickly emerged as a conceptual artist of global recognition. Her work has been shown in the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Paul Kasmin Gallery, Holly Solomon Gallery, and other museums and galleries around the world.
In 2001, Suzan founded sei studio in SoHo with her husband, Brenden FitzGerald. They have collaborated with some of the industry’s most innovative architects and interior designers to produce custom chandeliers and art features for hundreds of landmark spaces, including the W Hotel Seoul, Mandarin Oriental New York, and Intercontinental Hong Kong.
